A Proven System to Help Retirees Plan Their Time

Example Exercise From the Workshop

A simple, structured system to help retirees build a fulfilling life after work.

At its core, the program helps participants replace what work used to provide—purpose, structure, social connection, and stimulation—so they can confidently answer:

“What will I do with myself if I retire?”

Participants gain clarity on:*

  • When to retire
  • Whether (and how) to keep working
  • Relationships and lifestyle changes
  • Where and how to live
  • Staying active and engaged
  • Volunteering and giving back
  • Integrating Life Goals with Financial Planning

*Relevant issues are supported by our research on 2,400 retirees.

Built on Experience. Backed by Research.

Developed by Dr. Alan Roadburg, retirement lifestyle researcher and educator

With over 25 years of research and experience, Dr. Roadburg has focused on one critical question:
What actually makes retirement fulfilling?

His work with more than 2,400 high-income retirees uncovered a consistent gap:

While financial planning addresses money, it often fails to replace the purpose, structure, and social connection that work once provided.

A typical workshop is structured, engaging, and easy to facilitate. It works best with groups of up to 30 participants, with spouses encouraged to attend. Seating is arranged in small groups of 7–8 to support written exercises and a guided brainstorming session—rather than a lecture-style format.

The workshop runs about two hours and combines individual reflection with group interaction. As shown in the sample video, the process is clearly led by Dr. Roadburg, so you are facilitating a proven framework rather than creating content on your own.

Yes, it can definitely be delivered via online meeting platforms (Zoom or Teams), and we include instructions for this format. In this case, we use breakout rooms for the brainstorming session.

That said, as with most group-based experiences, in-person delivery generally leads to stronger engagement, more meaningful discussion, and better outcomes.

The program is fully structured through guided video modules, so the host does not need to prepare presentations or decide what to say. This is not a passive, watch-only experience. You begin with a brief opening and close the workshop. At key points, the video pauses to prompt short, guided discussions using fully scripted questions that are easy to lead. The program also includes written exercises and a structured brainstorming session—led by Dr. Roadburg within the video—so participants are actively engaged throughout. The host guides the conversation and keeps the session moving.

Minimal. The program is turnkey, with short videos and a structured participant workbook that includes worksheets and additional material.

Dr. Roadburg leads the session through the videos, while the host facilitates and guides discussion using built-in talking points and simple questions.

No special training or additional preparation is required.

You receive complete guidance and materials to help you introduce and deliver the program effectively.

This includes clear instructions for before, during, and after the workshop, along with ongoing support to ensure you can integrate the program smoothly into your existing process.
